We’re pleased to share that we’re celebrating our 50th birthday in style, with one of the biggest gala weekends we’ve ever hosted – and everyone is invited!
All available mainline locomotives will be putting on a show, with a special timetable of rare services in place over the three days. Meanwhile, we’ll also be playing host to visiting steam locomotives on the Lakeside Railway and miniature traction engines too.
Lappa’s history is so interesting, and we’re going to be displaying memories and memorabilia from our 50 years.
Standard admission will be in place for the weekend, with discounted weekend tickets available too – see below. There is no pre-booking, simply buy your admission at the ticket office and join in the fun. Of course, annual pass holders get in for free.
We’re really looking forward to celebrating 50 years of Cornwall’s Secret World of Play and Trains with you!
We’ll be running double-headed trains, parallel running where two trains effectively race alongside each other on our double section of track; plus your chance to be a passenger on ‘The Cornishman’ non-stop service which travels straight through the station at East Wheal Rose once a day.
The Lakeside Railway will be playing host to visiting 7¼ inch gauge steam locomotives, and a selection of beautiful miniature traction engines will be on display at East Wheal Rose too.
Services on the main railway will be shared by the pool of steam and diesel locomotives including Lappa Valley’s first ever engine “Zebedee” which will be making its first public appearance in steam following its 3 year rebuild.
If you pay full admission on one of the days, you can return for another day over the birthday weekend for HALF PRICE.
So for example, buy your ticket for full price on Friday, and you can return on Saturday or Sunday for half price each day.
Don’t forget, Annual Passholders can enjoy free entry across the whole weekend.
There will also be memories and an exhibition with artefacts from Lappa’s history on display, as well as the opportunity to buy the latest guidebook which reflects not only on the railway’s history, but the most recent developments too.
