Activities for all ages!

All our main activities are included in your admission price, including unlimited rides on all three of our railways!

(Please note, we do have some electric ride-on cars and two small sit-on rides which are an additional cost).

Departing from our Car Park station at Benny Halt, board our main 15″ Gauge Railway down to Cornwall’s Secret World of Play and Trains at East Wheal Rose. This 1.5 mile route takes you along the route of the historic Newquay – Chacewater line, with a selection of Steam and Diesel locomotives transporting families with unlimited rides on regular services throughout the day. Please note due to operational reasons we cannot guarantee steam or diesel traction on any given day.

Departing from Platform Three is the Lakeside Railway! Our smallest railway (7.25″ gauge) will take you on an exciting 5 minute circular journey around the park where you will go through a tunnel and may enounter some of the creatures that surround it!

All aboard on our brand new Platform Two, Trebah Halt for a half mile journey on our 10.25″ gauge railway up the valley to Newlyn Downs, taking you to a family games field and picnic area.

Once at Newlyn Downs you have the option to stay a while and enjoy the newly refurbished play area or visit Picnic and Paddle (a peaceful picnic area located next to the gentle stream). Alternatively you can just stay on the train and enjoy the return journey, or walk back to East Wheal Rose using the woodland or dog walk.

Run, Roll, Tumble, Jump, Swing! The Engine Shed Indoor Soft Play is an exciting multi level soft play area where children can let off steam whilst adults can refuel in comfort.

The Engine Shed also includes plenty of baby-changing facilities, modern toilets as well as a fully accessible Changing Places toilet. For further information on our accessibility and inclusivity, please click here.

We also host great birthday parties in our party rooms with direct VIP access to the soft play area!

Try your hand at a round of Adventure Golf on our all-weather accessible course!

Featuring 12 thrilling holes filled with fun features and various railway objects, its your chance to putt your way through the railway ‘rail chairs’, old railway wheels, the tyre loop the loop, over the bridges, through the pipes and more!

Join us at Lappa Valley and head out onto our beautiful family-friendly boating lake. We have pedalo swans available for you all to enjoy.

The swans are located on our lake at East Wheal Rose and are suitable for larger groups, as they can take up to four people.

There is an island to negotiate – and in the summer, you are likely to see many dragonflies and damselflies.

Lappa Valley has lots of fun play areas for the children to enjoy. When you arrive, we have a small playground right next to the Ticket Office, including rocker trains and slides. Play here while you’re waiting to board the train.

Once you’re inside the park, we’ve got a play fort at East Wheal Rose and trampolines next to the adventure golf course as well as a number of other exciting play areas.

At Newlyn Halt, right at the top of Lappa Valley, there is also a family games field with picnic tables, play trains, football nets and balls. We’ve also got our picnic and paddle area here. (Newlyn Halt is only open during the summer months, March – October)

New for 2024, our fabulous Frisbee Golf course takes you into the beautiful countryside surrounding East Wheal Rose, with 10 baskets designed to challenge competitors.

Frisbee Golf is similar to normal golf – but instead of hitting a ball towards a hole, you throw a frisbee towards the basket!

Just collect your Frisbees from the Gift Shop. We regret that due to the nature of terrain, this activity is not suitable for those with mobility issues, wheelchairs or pushchairs.

Fuel your fun! – The Engine Shed is home to our modern comfortable cafe and outdoor decking area offering a wide range of delicious home-cooked food.

Try one of our hearty burgers, delicious sandwiches, perfect pizzas, wraps, cakes and a tasty menu for children too!

For drinks, theres something for everyone from freshly ground bean to cup coffees, teas, hot chocolate and soft drinks

For 50 years, Lappa Valley has been delighting families – but did you know that Cornwall’s Secret World of Play and Trains boasts a rich, diverse and very interesting history?

Learn more about how a disused mine and part of the old Newquay to Chacewater Branchline on the outskirts of a sleepy Cornish village was given a new lease of life, along with stories of how we became the award-winning attraction we are today with archive films, artefacts and giant timeline.

Plus, the chance for small (and big!) children alike to sit in a real 7 1/4″ gauge locomotive – the perfect social photo to make your friends jealous!

As well as the family fun to be enjoyed at Lappa, we also have a couple of nice short walks, giving you the opportunity to explore the flora and fauna that our beautiful valley has to offer.

If you are aboard the Newlyn Downs Branchline, or have walked up on the woodland walk, why not head over to enjoy this peaceful picnic area with a tranquil stream running through it which features a safe area for the young ones (and young at heart!) to enjoy a paddle in the water!
