Lappa Valley visits Callestick Farm to see where our ice cream is made

18 June 2026 | News

Keith and Ben recently popped just down the road from Lappa Valley to visit our friends at Callestick Farm and find out more about where the delicious Cornish ice cream we serve is made.

At Lappa Valley, we love working with local businesses who share our values, and there are few partnerships sweeter than the one we have with Callestick Farm.

Keith and Ben recently popped just down the road from Lappa Valley to visit our friends at Callestick Farm and find out more about where the delicious Cornish ice cream we serve is made.

The visit began in the fields, meeting some of the cows who help produce the milk that goes into Callestick’s much-loved ice cream.

Ben Harding, Operations Director at Lappa Valley, said: “It’s really good to come and see the girls out here in the field.”

One of the most special things about the visit was discovering just how local the process really is. Some of the cows at Callestick graze less than a mile from Lappa Valley, meaning they may even hear the occasional whistle and toot from our trains.

Keith Southwell, Managing Director of Lappa Valley, said: “To think that these cows, some of them occasionally are grazing less than a mile from Lappa, that’s really incredible.”

Keith added: “Just think those cows are the very ones that are milked, and that milk is used in the delicious ice cream that we’re selling.”

During the visit, Keith and Ben met Sam from Callestick Farm, who explained more about life on the farm. Callestick farms around 1,000 acres in total and has a herd of just under 500 milking cows, along with younger heifers who will join the milking herd in the future.

The team also learned about the farm’s grazing system, with the milking herd moving to fresh paddocks regularly as part of their routine.

After seeing the cows in the fields, Keith and Ben met Amy, Callestick’s Marketing Manager, to learn more about what happens after the cows have been milked.

The milk is transported across the valley to Callestick’s factory, where it is pasteurised and put into production. From there, it is turned into a wide range of ice cream flavours, with Callestick producing around 35 to 40 different flavours.

Callestick Farm’s ice cream is not only enjoyed here in Cornwall, but also much further afield. As well as making their own range, Callestick also produces ice cream for other brands, including the Marks & Spencer Cornish range.

For us at Lappa Valley, choosing Callestick ice cream is about more than serving a tasty treat. It is about supporting a fellow local family business, celebrating brilliant Cornish produce, and giving our visitors another little taste of Cornwall during their day out.

Ben Harding said: “Beautiful Callestick ice cream. We’ve been waiting to be able to sell this ice cream for a very long time.”

Keith added: “Come and see us at Lappa. You too could enjoy some of this delicious ice cream.”

Callestick ice cream is now available at Lappa Valley, the perfect treat to enjoy during a day of trains, play, adventure and family time together.

We are proud to support our friends at Callestick Farm and to serve their delicious Cornish ice cream here at Lappa Valley.
