The Lappa Valley is an oasis of wildlife conservation with a host of unusual species thriving in a protected environment. You will see many of them during a visit whether you’re on a train, boat or walking round the woodlands. Buzzards, Ravens, Woodpeckers and Mallards live in the valley and in the summer Swallows nest at East Wheal Rose. On warm days, beautiful dragonflies skim over the lake.
A profusion of wild flowers, including Bluebells and Foxgloves thrive in and around the valley. For a few weeks in late spring, Ragged Robin, Iris and Southern Marsh Orchid flourish, even in our car park! A stroll along our walks will show many other plants – all are carefully conserved. Among the wildlife, squirrels and rabbits are common and, if you are lucky, you may see one of the stoats, badgers, foxes and deer which frequent the Valley and enjoy a peaceful existence. Sometimes bats can been seen in the early evening in the summer months.
Our dedication to a conserved environment free of artificial pesticides and intensive agriculture helps to create a very special atmosphere in the valley – we hope you will enjoy it and take some of it home with you. |
